Remember the Iraqi journalist, Muntader al-Zaidi, who threw his shoes at George Bush in 2008?
In Arabic, Mr. Zaidi shouted:“This is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog!” as he threw a shoe at Bush.
Launching the other shoe he shouted:“This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq!”
In October 2013, the President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou faced some flying shoes.
The China Post reported:
“Of late, President Ma Ying-jeou has been dogged by flying shoes thrown at him by protesters and hecklers, so frequent and threatening that Taiwan’s police spent about US $16,000 to buy 149 “shoe-catching nets” to protect the safety of the president, although none of these projectiles has yet hit the bull’s-eye.”
Maybe, ‘shoe-catching nets’ will, shortly, be part of security at American political events.
