Name Calling Is A Widely Used Propaganda Device

Name Calling” is a device to make us form a judgment without examining the evidence on which it should be based.

Ad hominem (Latin) means “against the man”. As the name suggests, it is a literary term that involves commenting on or against an opponent to undermine him instead of his arguments.

Propaganda teaches how to manipulate a ‘target’ audience.

When you can’t attack the ‘message’ or ‘issue’ in a debate, you, instead, attack the person.

Psychology and Consumer Product Packaging

I am always curious about creative and innovative ideas.

In marketing, I am curious about how psychology is used to manipulate consumers.

Lars Wallentin is a global packaging design expert. In a marketing tutorial, he explains the psychology of package design, brand awareness and synergy.

The lessons from this expert apply to anyone with money and media who wants to manipulate the public.

When you want to push the publics’ buttons, psychology is everything!

Penn and Teller Demonstrate The Craft of Honest Deception

Magicians  Penn and Teller are very talented entertainers. They are expert at manipulating the  attention and perception of an audience.

I view magic as a parable about politics. I have become familiar with magic so I can understand the methods of manipulation that politicians use to misdirect attention and create deceptive illusions.

the bible explains the genius of the parable:

I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.  Matthew 13:13

This means that the discerning person who wishes to understand something  that may be confusing or complicated can compare something familiar like magic to something confusing like politics.

Like faith, a sincere desire to understand can enlighten one person to see and the same parable to another, who has no desire to understand, will learn nothing and completely miss reality.

Magicians can manipulate my attention and perception and I am amused and entertained.

Politicians use the same methods to manipulate my attention and perception.

“The people never give up their liberties but under some delusion. …” (Edmond Burke)

Therefore, I am always aware that illusions of political theatre may be the result of dishonest deceptive methods.

Because I view magic as a parable about politics every time I watch talented illusionists like ‘Penn and Teller’ I learn a little more about politics.

Tyranny: The Art Of Dishonest Deception:

It is a well known fact, at least among conjurers, That the more intelligent the audience the more readily will they be deceived by conjuring  principles of which they have no knowledge: cause and effect are so rapidly associated that the unexpected denouement catches them off-guard.  (Edwin A. Dawes)

“ It is difficult to mystify children and mental defectives because their general knowledge is limited, and their attention cannot be distracted or misdirected by suggestions of factors they do not understand. Never be ashamed if you are fooled; only your intelligence is proved.” ( 1)(Vincent H. Gaddis)

“Intelligent persons try to explain what they see in terms of their extensive knowledge of causes and effects, and the remarks of the performer assist in confusing them. On the other hand, children, lacking adult knowledge, rely on direct observation. When the performer points his finger at something on the other side of the stage, the adults look in the direction indicated, but the children first look at his finger. The more intelligent a person is, the more he uses his mind instead of his eyes. Thus he fools himself.” (2)
